Motivation

• Must win family NCAA tourney pool!

• I used to watch a lot of college basketball.

• Not anymore

  

• In 1997, a professor at Iowa mentioned using a computational technique to win his pool. ``It wasn't even close.''

• In the last four years I've watched about five games start to finish.

• I have won two pools and finished in the top 5% of the Yahoo Tourney Pick'em one year and in the top 10% other years.

• Not complicated math or computer science, but it shows some uses for simulation and curve fitting.
